If you want something more than a plain grey stepping stone, decorative finishes are where you can unleash your creativity. A wide variety of materials are available from paint, hardware and craft stores. Below are some samples of our what we have done to create various decorative finishes and color mixtures.

#9 Technique:
Grey Portland cement dyed rust; wash of Portland cement, water, red concrete dye.

#10 Technique:
White Portland cement, white sand, painted with craft store acrylics.

#11 Technique:
White Portland cement, white sand dyed light brown. Slurry made of black pigment, cement and water. Paint brush very lightly dipped into slurry, excess paint wiped from brush. Paint is then "dry-brushed" onto high relief areas.

#12 Technique:
Decorative blue pebbles sprinkled onto bottom of mold, then mortar mix overpour. To further expose rocks, brush with wire brush when stone is first out of mold.

#13 Technique:
Sun & moon caste in hydrostone, colored with iron oxide pigment then painted with metallic craft paints.

#14 Technique:
Beautiful volcanic appearance created by high percentage of perlite- see Recipe#3 in "Concrete Recipes."

#15 Technique:
Paint finished stone with metallic acrylic paints- silver, copper, bronze and gold. Allow to dry. Then create a thin wash using dark green acrylic paint and water. Apply to entire painted stone, then rub off high points of design with a dry rag.

Another beautiful example of antiquing.
