If you want something more than a plain grey stepping stone, decorative finishes are where you can unleash your creativity. A wide variety of materials are available from paint, hardware and craft stores. Below are some samples of our what we have done to create various decorative finishes and color mixtures.

#1 Technique:
Powdered ochre yellow dye in premix concrete, washed with slurry of Portland cement, water and ochre dye.

#2 Technique:
Premix cement given a silver metallic wash. Wash was then lightly rubbed off areas of high relief.



#3 Technique:
Undyed white Portland cement, white sand. Beautiful porcelain-like finish.

#4 Technique:
White Portland cement, white sand, peat moss. Washed with slurry of Portland cement, water and rust-colored cement dye.



#5 Technique:
Perlite creates an interesting pitted, antiqued look.

#6 Technique:
White Portland cement, white sand dyed very light green, then dark green acrylic paint applied over a crackle glaze. Nice effect for wall hangings.



#7 Technique:
Grey mortar mix treated with an "instant rust" finish found in any craft store.

#8 Technique:
Black dyed mortar mix washed with a slurry of portland cement and red iron oxide pigment.



#9 Technique:
white portland cement dyed with a red and brown oxide, washed with a green and ochre slurry of portland cement.
